One of the most popular symbols of Christian Science is the
crown and cross. Although the crown and cross may seem to be common and self
explanatory as seen in other religions, it is in fact an extremely intricate
and detailed symbol. The original representation of crown is flooded with
jewels, 16 in total. The jewels are aligned singly and in clusters, formatted
to create a 9x16 dimension. These dimensions are formatted in such a way to
represent the measure of the city provided by the Apostle John in Revelation
21:17.
Eventually Mary Eddy Bakers decided to simplify the crown by just
representing the jewels with just five clusters of the jewels at the top of the
crown. Aside from the extremely dense detailing of the crown, the crown and
cross also stands as a representation of victory over death since the religion
of Christian Science advocates to “Heal the Sick, Cleanse the Lepers, Raise the
Dead, [and] Cast out the Demons.
